Isaiah 43:18-19a

June 16, 2023 by Rebecca Littlejohn

Isaiah 43:18-19a – Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? (NRSV)

One of the goals we set for our 75th anniversary year was an overhaul of our website. This was important because it’s about ten years old, and the computer code that holds it together is so out-of-date it’s getting harder and harder to keep secure. But it’s also a wonderful opportunity for us to re-consider how we are presenting ourselves to the rest of the world.

The process of updating the website began in earnest in April, with conversations with our web developer, Sue. And then sometime in May, I spent a few solid days going through all the pages and all the text, trying to find everything that needed to be revised. I am so grateful that this process has happened alongside our conversations about who we are as a church and what we think people should know about VLM. Big shout out to everyone who was with us at the Park in May who contributed to that!

I got to see some more of the initial designs today, and friends, I am So Excited! The new site is going to be beautiful, and it’s going to show everyone the most important things about what God is doing here at Vista La Mesa. Inclusivity, service, authenticity, food, faithfulness and more! We have really begun understanding who we are as a church and what God is calling us to do. And our website is going to be a wonderful way to share that with others.

There is still at least a month or so of development work that will have to happen before the new website will launch, but that doesn’t need to hold us back from sharing the joy of VLM with others! I’d love to have you hang out at our booth at La Mesa’s Juneteenth celebration at MacArthur Park this Sunday afternoon. Keep some church cards with you, in case someone is interested in visiting. Wear your VLM shirts and hats whenever you know you’re going out and about. God is doing a new thing! Let’s make sure everyone can see it!

Collect for the Week: Eternal God, whose work is ever new, grant that we might build on what has been with eyes toward what will be, so that we might live and grow in your time. Through Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit we pray, Amen.
