Who Are We?

Vista La Mesa Christian Church is a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We have been in ministry on the west edge of La Mesa since 1948. We are a joyfully multi-generational congregation, where ALL are welcome. Our denominational identity statement sums it up pretty well:
“We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.”

We are a community of faith where there’s always room for one more at the table. Like a loving family, we celebrate life’s blessings together and comfort one another during life’s challenges. We gather for worship and find that we are refreshed to go forth and serve our neighbors. We celebrate the unity and the diversity of the Body of Christ!

Our mission is sharing Christ’s welcome – with one another, with our neighbors, and with all of God’s children. Welcome means that each person is cherished for who God is creating them to be; each person has something to contribute; and each person is worthy and beloved in the eyes of God. We would love to have you share in that with us!

As Disciples, we find our unity in Christ Jesus. We celebrate communion weekly at Christ’s table, which is open to all. We cherish our individual liberty to interpret scripture and determine our own beliefs, within community, but without coercion. We baptize at an age of understanding, by immersion, but we also welcome members baptized in other traditions. We engage in hands-on service to our neighbors as a central practice of our faith.
