DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

Matthew 6:19-21 – “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (NRSV)

It’s 101º as I write this, even though it’s the first Friday of October.  It feels like we’re stuck in a long, hot summer that will never end.  Gas prices are out of sight, and the solar inverters need to be replaced.  Everywhere we turn, times are hard.  It’s in these kinds of moments that we need to be clear about what we truly value.  I’m hoping your congregation is one of the parts of your life that you value highly.

I’ll be upfront: your church needs your support.  The first three months of our fiscal year (July-September) are almost always a thin time for our offerings, and this year has been no different.  As we have uncovered and corrected some accounting issues that had led us to believe we were in better shape than we really are, your vote of confidence right now would make a world of difference!

Does your heart turn to Vista La Mesa when times are hard?  I hope that this is a place of solace for you, a community that you know you can count on, to hold you up when life is challenging.  Together, we can face the difficulties that are thrown at us, so that no one is left to deal with problems on their own.

We know that life has gotten more expensive all around, but we’re hoping you can share some of what you have with this congregation, so that we can continue to weather difficulties together.  When we draw our hearts and our treasure together, God can do marvelous things!  Thank you!
