Stewardship

The spiritual discipline of stewardship is about re-arranging our priorities to better reflect the priorities of the gospel. By sharing our resources regularly and generously through the church, we become part of what God is doing in the world. Giving some of what we have away is a statement of trust in God’s providence and a declaration that there are more important things than money. It is a way of remembering our blessings and a practice of gratitude. Like many smaller congregations around the country, we struggle with finances at VLMCC. But we also realize that we’re not alone in that; most of us have way too much financial stress in our lives. By bringing our money issues into our faith conversations, we can break free of some of that stress. By recognizing that our bank balance is not the measure of our worth and believing that we all have something we can give, we can begin to live life from a place of abundance.

Some of the tools we use in the practice of stewardship are Estimate of Giving Cards and Offering Envelopes. Each year, during our stewardship campaign, we are invited to estimate how much we hope to give in the coming year. We share that commitment on a card with a few trusted leaders who are responsible for projecting the church’s budget. What the amount comes to is not as important as the commitment to being a regular giver. When we give regularly, our investment in the congregation’s ministry deepens. This is one of the ways God shapes our spirits, for as Jesus said, “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Offering envelopes are provided for those who would like to use them, as a way of helping us make sure everything goes where it’s intended to go and the proper people get the credit (donation receipts at tax time). Offering envelopes are available for weekly or monthly giving. Just ask Pastor Rebecca if you would like some.

We would love to receive your support electronically.
