Christian Education

Spiritual formation opportunities at VLMCC are led by both the pastor and other church leaders. We have classes that are open to all, as well as various small groups. If you would like to be part of the Christian Education Ministry Committee, please let the Pastor know.

Our Sunday Morning Study is generally a Bible study, either looking at a particular book as a whole or exploring a particular theme in scripture. This class is led by a rotation of teachers, most of whom are ordained clergy. Sunday Morning Study usually takes a break over the summer. Check out the most recent newsletter to see what we’re doing at the moment. This class meets in Bailey Hall and on Zoom. You can watch videos of previous classes on our YouTube channel

We occasionally have other short-term classes that are held on week-nights, depending on member interest and what our ministry committees are focusing on.

Our current small groups include a Women’s Group that meets every other Friday at 1 pm, primarily aimed at retired women; and Novels Tea, a book group that meets on occasional Sundays, primarily aimed at working women. Both of these groups are currently meeting on Zoom.

We like to work with our families to design opportunities for spiritual development for our children and youth. When younger kids leave worship, they are led in an age-appropriate program that combines learning, worship, and fun. It is loosely based on the Children Worship & Wonder approach.

We occasionally have outings for our children & youth. Older youth are invited to participate in the San Diego United Youth Group, which meets at CIty Heights United Methodist Church. Another major spiritual formation experience for our children and youth is the summer camp program of the Pacific Southwest Region at Loch Leven Camp in the San Bernardino Mountains. We hold fundraisers throughout the year so that we can support all our kids who want to go to camp.
